Training

All training involves NO FIRE whatsoever!

You would typically start off with a set of tennis balls on a piece of string and only once you have achieved a fair degree of competence with these would you be ‘allowed’ to set anything on fire

Poi Class

Classes have been held every Wednesday evening from 7pm to 8pm at the Observatory Community centre for about the last 5 years now.

You don't need to know anything to start. The class is taught on an individual basis so there is no need to 'fit in' with anybody else's skill level. You will need some practice equipment but in the beginning you can just borrow some if you like.
Please let me know when you plan on coming through so I know to bring something for you to use and also just to check that class not full and is indeed happening that night.
Occasionally class is cancelled when I am involved in a performance.

Directions

Assuming you are coming from Liesbeek Parkway, you will turn up Station Rd and go over the bridge.
At the traffic lights turn Right into Lower Main Rd.
Then First Right into Collingwood and then first Right again into Rawson road, which will lead you to the parking lot of the centre

Training DVD

This is a great idea if you are buying some poi for yourself or as a gift because you really need some proper instruction to get going. It is not impossible but very unlikely that a person will learn how to poi on your own.
It is also great for those who don’t have anyone to teach them or for those who would rather learn in the comfort of their own home. To have a closer look at the DVD, please look under the Products menu.

Corporate Fun Days

FireTribe has taken part in a number of corporate Fun Days where employees were taught how to poi as part of the days activities.
It is really fun and quite revealing as it exposes how well one listens to instructions. It is also a lot harder than what most people think so it also highlights the participant’s patience and determination. A sense of humour goes a long way
